Everybody relax! Yes, it has been a year since I've posted but there's a great explanation for my absence!

I've been working the whole time! In the last year from October 2009 I've called Liquid Animation my home... (because I've spent more time there than home)
I have the privilege of working on a kids show airing in the US, Europe and Australia sometime in 2012! Its already translated into French... and it s hilarious!
We have completed a Music video, 15 episodes, a 22min movie and are about to start work on another 15 full length episodes for TV! With another potential 45min movie in mid 2012!
I can't say what it is due to NDAs and all that but its been something new and exciting everyday! I'm sure I'll be able to post something later down the track.
Its been an amazing experience so far with seriously talented people working on something I've dreamt of doing for well over 7 years!

We are currently using 3dsMax 2010, rendering with Vray and comping in After Effects CS5... for anyone curious about the pipeline.

In other news I've begun a collaborative short film project with 3 old mates from uni.
More details and perhaps works-in-progress as we get into production!
We'll be submitting to Tropfest 2012 in Sydney next January! Keep checkin back as things are picking up!

Till next time!

Just saw that you mentioned you used mental ray in stead of the vray I guessed..

Nice you can get those results out of mental ray, i'm still learning when it comes to rendering :P

How big are your texture maps for that scene if I may ask ?

Yeah I learnt mr first but now use mainly vray cause its more industry standard for archvis...and renders so much faster even with more in the scene!
My texture maps were 2 x 1024 for the cliff, ground and stone wall. These would be smaller tiled textures in a real game engine but I made a custom one for this render.
All other props are on two smaller 512 maps.

I think in this scene I used one direct light with area shadows and an omni with ambient light ticked but at 0.1%. And the water is a mental ray water shader and a plane above the whole scene with clouds on for water reflection.
I also did an ambient occlusion bake to texture inside max for darker dirtier corners.

Yeah things have been good man - busy contracting - been travelling a lot working in house mostly for V2i and Roam Interactive.
I've got permission to post some older stuff so you might see a few new ones soon!
Hows uni going for you?

Awesome man, sounds like you've been hard at it!

Uni is now over for the year. Thank Christ! I was ready to die towards the end. I am still doing my work for Springfield Land Corp. but am on the tail end of that so that's some good news... Hoping to pick up some extra work but at the same time i'm quite happy sitting at home every day and developing my skills with the software I use... I think this week I'm going to dive into After Effects and see how i go... Check out some of my latest environments if you have the time :)
